Artisan Specialties has been in business since 1992.
What is your primary product or service?
75% of our work was high in interior trim for custom homes. Featuring our custom cabinetry and stairways. But as of 2006 with the economy so bad and the infusion of all the undocumented labor in SC our percentage has changed to 85% remodeling and 15% repair of existing homes.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
When I was 21 years old my father in-law asked me if I wanted to help him do insurance repair work. Of course I asked how much does it pay? What 21 year old wouldn’t? His name was Dale Wickenhauser and I still love him today. He was a great man of integrity who saw the possibilities of a young man.

I started taring out fire and water damaged homes and rebuilding them for the next eight years. Of course when you rebuild a home you will need to install new trim and cabinets. That is where I fell in love with cabinetry. It opened up a whole new world to me that I still love to this day. But it’s not just the cabinets! What makes a home different from another? The design of the homes trim. The type of wainscot, crown, cased openings and so forth. For 34 years I have repaired, added on to, and built homes. If God could give a person a job he would love, he sure did me a favor!
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Artisan Specialties is a family construction company. Not your big cookie cutter mass builder. Each person is special to us with their satisfaction being the most important. We help the homeowner through the selection of material and construction process and are reachable 7/24. There are few companies that can say that the owner swings a hammer right beside his men. Mine is one of the few!
Everything I do is personal to me, from designing an addition to designing a kitchen cabinet or bathroom vanity there is a piece of me with everything I do. I look at it like this. When a person builds something that is truly beautiful people will ask who built that? When I build something they will still ask who built that! The best thing is when it is my time to die I will have left many smiles, and they will not only remember me, but my laugh, and still be asking who built that!
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
Artisan Specialties has one location. My home office and no I do not want to expand. With expansion you lose control of what you want to achieve. I only do two jobs at a time. So during the days of summer there will probably be a waiting list if you wish my company to do your work.

I did an outstanding job! And I accept tips, “grin” The biggest tip I got? $250.00!! And I never got the job. It was a complicated remodeling job that took weeks to put together. All estimates are free. But the Owner gave me a large tip for the effort I put into his home!
